    Shatavari Roots Powder: Overview

Asparagus racemosus (satavar, shatavari, or shatamull, shatawari) is a species of asparagus common throughout India and the Himalayas. Shatavari has small pine-needle-like phylloclades (photosynthetic branches) that are uniform and shiny green. In July, it produces minute, white flowers on short, spiky stems, and in September it fruits, producing blackish-purple, globular berries. It has an adventitious root system with tuberous roots that measure about one meter in length, tapering at both ends, with roughly a hundred on each plant. Because of its multiple uses, the demand for Asparagus racemosus is constantly on the rise.
  • Uses and Benefits of Shatavari Roots Powder

Shatavari is considered a general health tonic to improve vitality, making it a staple in ayurvedic medicine. The herb is thought to be apoptogenic, which means that it may help to regulate the body’s systems and improve resistance to stress. Shatavari is available in dietary supplement form usually as a pill or powder. The roots are said to be tonic and diuretic and galactagogue, the drug has ulcer healing effect probably via strengthening the mucosal resistance or cryoprotection. It has also been identified as one of the drugs to control the symptoms of AIDS. A. racemosus has also been successfully by some Ayurvedic practitioner for nervous disorder, inflammation and certain infectious disease.

Diabetes:Shatavari shows promise in the treatment of diabetic nephropathy, a type of kidney damage thought to result in part from poor control of diabetes and blood pressure. In addition, shatavari significantly decreases cholesterol and blood sugar levels and reduces oxidative stress.

Ulcers:Some preliminary studies indicate that shatavari may help treat gastric ulcers, a condition that occurs when the protective lining of the stomach breaks down and fails to fight off irritating acids.

Improving female reproductive health:Perhaps the most common traditional use of shatavari, or A. racemosus, is to treat female health conditions, specifically reproductive disorders. This plant may improve conditions such as hormonal imbalances and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Reducing symptoms of menopause:In line with its traditional use as a treatment for female reproductive conditions, recent research suggests that a combination of herbal medicines, including A. racemosus, may reduce the symptoms of menopause. After taking Shatavari Powder for 12 weeks, women reported a reduction in hot flashes and night sweats.

Anti-anxiety effects:Shatavari supplements have also traditionally been used to combat anxiety and depression.

Breast-feeding and pregnancy:A substance that boosts milk production during breast-feeding is called a galactagogue, and shatavari is commonly used for this purpose.
