Neem Leaf Powder: Overview
Neem is an evergreen tree and is the fastest-growing tree, young leaves of the plant are reddish to purple in color and mature leaves are dark green in color. Flowers are small, white colored and fragrant. Olive like drupe fruit is oval to round in shape, smooth and immature fruits are green in color. After the ripening color of fruit changes to yellow with pulp and seed inside. Neem is native to the Indian subcontinent, i.e. India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Maldives. It is typically grown in tropical and semi-tropical regions.
Uses and Benefits of Neem Leaf Powder
In the world of Ayurveda, Neem is a popular medicinal herb that’s been part of traditional remedies that date back almost 5000 years. Neem leaves have anti-bacterial properties which is why it works wonders on infections, burns and any kind of skin problems. It destroys the bacteria that causes infections, stimulates the immune system and encourages rapid healing. Neem leaf is used for leprosy, eye disorders, bloody nose, intestinal worms, stomach upset, loss of appetite, skin ulcers, diseases of the heart and blood vessels (cardiovascular disease), fever, diabetes, gum disease (gingivitis), and liver problems. It is also used for malaria, stomach and intestinal ulcers, skin diseases, pain, and fever.
Dental plaque:Early research suggests that applying neem leaf extract gel to the teeth and gums twice daily for 6 weeks might reduce plaque formation. It also might reduce the number of bacteria in the mouth that can cause plaque.
Insect repellant:Early research suggests that applying extract of neem root or leaf to the skin helps repels black flies. Also, applying neem oil cream to the skin seems to protect against some types of mosquitos.
Ulcers:Some research suggests that taking 30-60 mg of neem leaf extract twice daily by mouth for 10 weeks helps heal stomach and intestinal ulcers.
Psoriasis:Early research suggests that taking neem extract by mouth for 12 weeks, along with daily sun exposure and the application of a coal tar and salicylic acid cream, reduces the severity of psoriasis symptoms in people.
Wound healer:Make a paste out of the neem leaves and dab it on your wounds or insect bites a few times a day till it heals.
Dandruff Reducer:Boil a 3 spoons of neem leaf powder till the water turns green, allow it to cool. After washing your hair with shampoo, cleanse it with this water.
Eye Trouble:Boil some neem leaf powder, let the water cool completely and then filter and use it to wash your eyes. This will help any kind of irritation, tiredness or redness.
Treat Acne:Add water to the Neem leaf powder make a paste and apply it daily till the acne dries out. The paste also helps any kind of eruptions, dark spots and chronic ulcers.
Ear ailments:Blend some neem powder and add some honey to it. Use a few drops of this mix to treat any ear boils.
Other skin disorders:Turmeric combined with a paste of neem leaves can also be used for itching, eczema, ring worms and some mild skin diseases.
Boost immunity:Add some Neem leaf powder and take them with a glass of water to increase your immunity.
